TAUPO EARTHQUAKES.
GOOD ADVERTISEMENT FOR NEW ZEALAND. Although Rotorua deplores the effect the publicity given to the Taupo earthquakes 1 on the tourist traffic, it may have quite a different effect or more adventurous spirits. Dr. H. O. Richards, Professor of Geology in the University of Queensland, writes to the Wellington geologist : "The latest cable notes from your unstable islands reattract attention to the thermal regions, and incidentally furnishes a magnificent advertisement for your Dominion. Yesterday I had visits from the local Press to give them some information on the general matter (ofl predicting eruptions).” Dr. Richards, who is best kpown for his studies on the tertiary vulcanivity o r Australia intends to visit the. New Zealand thermal and volcanic regions next summer, on - the occasion of the meet'ng of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science in Wellington next Jannary, and will no doubt add to the knowledge of that muchidiscussed but still imperfectly known area.
