BOMLNION CONFEBENCEi REMITS ADOPTED. At tlio Dominion Conference of the N.Z, Farmers’ Union the following rc-solutH'-ns were adopted : “That this conference urge upon
the Government the necessity for the more competent management of our railways, thus bringing about economy and more efficient service to Cue public.”
“That railway freights are too high, and that the Minister be urged to give consideration to the matter, with, a view to bringing about a reduction.” “That the attention of the Railway Department be drawn to the penalty imposed on inland freezing works by the high railway freight on frozen meat, compared to that, on live stock." “That as, in the opinion of the conference, the time is ripe for some improved system of making and maintaining roads, that coujnty councils .be urged to take the amtter into serious consideration.”
“That the Government be urged to provide cheaper methods of telephone const! action, thus enabling many farmers to link up with the telephone
bureaux." "That the conference advocates country post a|nd telephone offices being furnished daily with a weather report.” “That in view of insufficient facilities in New Zealand for training students in agriculture, the Government be requested immediately to proceed to establish an agricultural
training college." I “That the present method of raising money for hospital and charitable aid purposes i/ an inequitable tax on ratepayers; that the Government be requested to pass legislation, by which the money required for the purpose will be collected on a more equitable basis, and that the executive bring the matter before Che country members of Parliament.” i “ That this conference urges the I Government immediately to give ; effect to the recommendation of the ! Hospitals Commission of 1921, which 1 provides for an adjustment of the I subsidies paid to the Hospital boards ! throughout the Dominion, as many I districts, especially .those having a ■ large Maori population, require i urgent relief.”
