GOLF.
HAMILTON V. GOLDFIELDS, On Saturday on the Paeroa links a representative team from the Goldfields played a team representing the Hamilton Golf Chib. The Goldfields team was selected from the Waihi, Te Aroha, Thames, and Paeroa golf clubs. The weather proved ideal, for golf and a large number of. golf enthusiasts'. assembled on the links, to watch the play—many keen lady playcis acting as caddies, thereby obtaining a close view of the leading contests. The visiting players were very pleased with, the links, especial praise being bestowed on the condition of the large greens which the club put down 'this year. After a close and exciting contest the match resulted in a win for the Hamilton team, by two games. As the results of the separate matches started to come in to the club'house the excitement increased as the lead fluttered from team to team. It was not until the result of the last match became known that victory was finally assured to the Hamilton team. The following is the result of the fourteen games, Hamilton players being mentioned first in each case : Bell beat Colbeck, 4 and 2 ; F. Bond beat Maingay, 2 and 1 ; Ellis and Cullen, all square ; Horton beat Somers, 1 up ; Tate lost to CJendon, 6 and 4'; Simpson lost to Marshall (Thames), 3 and 1 ; Bray beat Halligan, 3 and 2 ; Wilkes lost, ’to Hunger, 2 and 1; Hay beat Wilson, 3 and 1: Pomeroy beat Jackson, 1 up ; Gerpand beat Bis r hop, 3 and 2; J. Bond lost to Miller, 3 and 2 ; Robertson lost to Marshall (Waihi), 7 and 6; Whitten and Dodd, all square. The executive of the Paeroa Golf Club wishes to thank the lady members of the club for providing the visitors with a most enjoyable afternoon tea The club is also indebted to Mr. Vuglar for putting his car at the disposal of the Hamilton team. THE B. TEAMS. This game was played at Hamilton, the Goldfields team being captained by Ivan Towers, of the Paeroa club. The match resulted in a win for the Goldfields team, after a keen contest, by the narrow margin of three games. On Saturday next the draw for the Club Championships, senior and junior, will take place at 2 p.m. Entries (free) will; be taken by the secretary. J. Watt, the golf coach, will start coaching on the links to day. THE GOLF BALL. A large number of golfers attended the general meeting on Monday night. The meeting was unanimous in support of holding an official golf ball on August 4. The following strong committee was elected to run the ball: Mesdames Gorrie. E. W. Porritt. Hanna, Little, Poland, Messrs G'drr’e, Hanna, Bishop, O’Neill, Eric Porritt, Steedman. LADIES’ GOLF. The postponed monthly medal and second round of the Club Handicap will be played on Saturday, and iu conjunction Miss E. Walmsley's trophy for first and second year players, the first fifteen holes. Players to play as far as possible with the same partners as in the previous round of Club Handicap; otherwise arrange own partners.
