CATTLE TICK.
: e>ITS MENACE TO THE PLAINS. NOT CONSIDERED GREAT. The alleged menace of cattle tick to the Hauraki Plains was brought before Mr J. Costello, the prominent veterinarian, who delivered a lecture regarding diseases in cattle at Waitakaruru on Monday. Mr. A. J. Andrews asked how did Mr. Costello view the threat which was being held, out to tlhem, regarding the tick menace. He wished to know what effect the disease would have. Mr. Costello said that £ll,ooo’ or £12,000 had been spent in investigations for tjhe eradication of tick. The frosts and the glorious climate of this country would tend to eliminate the pest. The farmers here should not worry about it. He did not think dipping would be quite satisfactory, as something more impregnating'was required. Spraying, he thought, would be more satisfactory. In the Opotiki district a number of cattle had been lost by dipping, which he maintained was not Che solution. He did not think that there was anything serious to worry about. All the tick which would come, in this district could easily be eradicated.
