HOCKEY.

o NETHERTON LADIES' CLUB. Hockey has often been rightly termed “the game that grows,” and it has spread among the ladies and men into practically every settled portion of the Dominion. Paeroa, however, has not appeared to take very kindly to the game, because, perhaps, there has been none enthusiastic enough to moot the idea of forming a club. But in and around , Netherton there are several ladies ' who have had considerable experience i at the game and who have formed a club. It has over a dozen members, and a couple of practice games have been played. It is said that it is their intention to affiliate with the Auckland Ladies’ Hockey Association. [ This idea is a good one, but the Neth- ' erton Club could go one step furtheß I They may be able to induce ladies in other neighbouring places to form .clubs, so that they could arrange local competitions, for which a trophy would no doubt be forthcoming from some lover of the sport. They could also make known to Te Arolia Waihi, and Thames Ladies’ Hockey Associations their existenec and extend invitations to those places to send teams to play the local team. This would arouse interest and perhaps he the means of strengthening the local club, and would undoubtedly improve the standard of play.
