PIGS ON THE PLAINS.
BACON FACTORY PROPOSAL SUPPORT IN WAITAKARURU. At the annual meeting of the Waitakaruru branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union on Thursday there was a short discussion pp the proposal to urge the erection of a bacon factory on the Hauraki Plains. Mr. French said there was such a large number of pigs on the Hauraki Plains and round Waitakaruru that it. would warrant a bacon factory being built somewhere on the Plains. Not only were there large mimbeijs of pigs, but the difficulties and cost of transport, the Jong distances to the railway, and the losses and delays, were additonal arguments in favour of the proposal. Mr. French proposed and Mr. Willi aims seconded a motion that the N-Z. Meat Packing and Bacon Co-bp. Co., Ltd., be urged to erect a bacon factory in some central position on the' Hauraki Plains.' The. motion was. carried unanimously.
