PLAINS DAIRYING.

« ITEFS OF INTEREST. The cream supply at the Ngatea butter factory, which’ is still receiving three clays a week, is keeping, up wonderfully well, notwithstanding th? cold frosts. This is attributable to the exceptionally good autumn. Though the price of butter-fat this season has been low the production has been considerably larger and has helped the dairymen to weather through the adverse conditions ruling on tire market. KOPU FACTORY AND ORONGO. It is apparent by the lemoval of portions of the plant at the Kopu factory that the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Company does not. intend reopening the factory. It is maintained by some that with the ferry running a service across the river, and the prospects pi the s.-ldicrs’ f;arms on the Orpngo settlement producing quantities of cream, the Kopu factory will be much needed. It may be pointed out, however, that tenders are to be called for the carting of cream from Orongo to the Ngatea factory, so that the Kopu factory, on that count, will be unnecessary. The cream is. to be carted from Cranston’s gate along the Kopuarahi road to the school corner, and then to the Ngatea butter factory. MIRANDA SUPPLIES. Several farmers milking about 300 cows at Miranda have been making inquiries with regard to supplying the N.Z. Dairy Company’s Nga,tea factory. They had previously been sending their cream to a factory at Auckland per boat once a week. It is

pleasing to note that the darrymen are endeavouring to get their cream to the factory as frequently as possible, and so increase the standard of production; This is not only for the benefit of the farmers themselves, but it is also an asset from a national point of view. The quality of the outputs is far better from the fre-. quentiy supplied cream than it is from butter-fat which is a week old when it is made into butter. The Miranda dairymen’s decision to send their cream frequently to the Ngatea factory is therefore doubtlessly a wise one.
