SUPPOSED DROWNING.
MAORI BOY DISAPPEARS. Word was received by Constable McClinchy on Friday night that a Maori boy named Ronga Kino, about 16 years of: age, had been drowned in the Ohinemuri River near the site of the old Extraction Company’s plant. The boy was seen over on the opposite side of the river to where . e lives, having gone across in. a canoe. He was seen going towards the canoe, which was tied up to the bank. Later on the canoe was seen drifting down stream. When .secured it was found that the tether rope was coiled up, and also a stick which the boy was seen with was wet, and in the bottom of the canoe. Dragging operations were immediately commenced, and have been continued ever since, but so far the body has not been recovered.' Asthe most it can only be surmised that the boy, who was subject to fits, but a strong swimmer, fell into the river, but the exact spot cannot be ascertained as apparently there were no witnesses to the supposed occurrence.
