MAUKORO DEVIATION.
. -—• —♦ TAKING OF LAND. Previous to the last meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council the clerk, Mr. E. Walton, had advised the district engineer o£ the Publie Tyorks Department that the councillpr/s for Patetonga and Tahuna ridings had met the settlers affected by the southern half of the Maukoro deviation, and it. was verbally agreed as follows : “Mrs. Cooper to give her land, Maori® to give their land, Mr. Ciark to give his land, Mr. Phillips to give his land, Mr. Whitechurch to give a strip 25 chains long and to be paid £35 per acre, with £5O severance, and, failing acceptance, his land to be taken under the Public Works Act. The proportion of cost that is to be borne by my Council to be divided equally between the Patetonga and Tahuna ridings. Your Department to do and pay for the fencing.’’
