• SPECIAL HEIFER SALE; The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., reports :— At Matamata on Thursday, Btli inst, we held .a -special sale of over 300 dairy heifers on account of Mr. F, R. Gibson, Turanga-o-moana, with very satisfactory results. Buyers were present from many outside districts and kept competition brisk. Jersey heifers reached the highest figure, but bidding was keener on Holsteins, which included some very well marked cattle; All were Taranaki bred, and selected by Mr. Gibson personally In that district. The following were the ruling rates: Best Jerseys, £l4 to £l6, medium £ll 10s to £l3, backward £9 to £lO ; best Holstein £l3 10s to £l5, medium £ll to £l2, backward £8 10s to £9 15s; Jersey-Ayr shire cross £l3 to £l4, backward £lO to £l2; best Jersey-Shorthorn cross £l3 to £l4, medium £lO 10s to £l.l 10s, others, more backward, £8 to £9 ; best JerseyHolstein cross £l2 to £l3 10s, backward £9 5s to £lO 15s. The average over the line was £lO Is.
