TURUA. VALEDICTORY. The members of St- Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Turua, mustered in the church, on Monday evening to bid farewell to their choirmaster, Mr. J. Platt. On behalf of the choir and glee dub the Rev. D. C. Stewart presented Mr. Platt with a pail’ of silvermounted hairbrushes as a token of appreciation of his valuable services during the year he had been in the district. During the evening the following contributed to a musical programme : Mesdames Stewart, McLean, McConnell, Hamilton (Auckland), Misses Young, Brooksmith (Auckland), Gibb, Rev. Stewart, Dr. Bathgate, Mr. Horrox, and Master Alex McConnell,, The new choirmaster, Mr. Johnson, who has just recently arrived in the district, was also welcomed. PERSONAL. Mr. Rogers, of Turua, who was recently appointed a justice of the piece, was sworn in at Thames last Saturday. NGATEA. GROWTH OF SETTLEMENT. The settlers of the Ngatea district have during the past six months seen a spurt in the growth of the settlement Improvements to the factory housing were completed, the hall enlarged, and a bakery built. A new post office is in the course of construction, while a schoolteacher’s residence and a, county engineer’s house are soon to be built. There is also a probability of a high school being obtained. Ngatea is also how being favoured by weekly visits of a doctor, while in addition to the present solicitor established there a visiting solicitor is now making weekly calls. HALL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Ngatea Ha,ll. Committee was held in the Hall on Wednesday evening, the following being present: Messrs G. T- Davidson (chairman), W. G. Hayward, Wl. J. Clare, R. E. Jamieson, S. Phillips, and D. A. Vincent (acting secretary). A request, by Mr. Gi J. Walker, solicitor, Turua, for the use of a room in the hall for two hours a week at a rental of £5 for 12 months was accepted. A letter from Mr. H. A. Hamilton, picture proprietor, requested permission to erect in the hall grounds an engine shed, which would enable him to instal a permanent plant. The matter was left in the hands oJ Mr. Clare. A' suggestion to have a dividing curtain in the middle of the hall was not entertained. KAIHERE. personal. The many friends of Mr. W. J. Senior will regret to learn that he is seriously ill in hospital at Auckland.
