KEREPEEHI DRAINAGE WORKS. PREVENTION OF FLOODING. An indication of the intentions of the Lands Drainage Department in connection with drainage works in. the Kerepeehi and Ngatea districts is contained In a reply from the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, with regard to the Council’s representations on behalf of “The Island” settlers and the effect of the stop-hanks now being erected to the south-west of Kerepeehi and those to be erected to the north of Kerepeehi. The letter stated : “Improvements to the Piako River, including the enlarging ofl the Puhunga canal, are being carried on simultaneously With the stpp-baiiking of the lands to the south-west of Kerepeehi. The works in hand will greatly lessen the possibility ofl flooding the ‘lsland’ block.”
