NETHERTON HALL.

THE ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the deben-ture-holder sof the Netherton Hall was held on Friday evening, Mr. RH. Heappy (president) occupying the chair. There was a fair attendance. The chairman, in making his annual report, stated that there was a small credit balapce in hand. The ha l ! would soon have to be moved, when the Public Works Department ascertained where the new site was to he. There would be a stop-bank coming across the present hall site. He suggested that the funds in hand be devoted to the installation of the electric light. Electricity would be cheaper and more convenient. The secretary, Mr. T. Vowles had some months ago sustained serious injuries through the explosion of the acetylene gas tank. The balance-sheet showed that there was a credit balance of £35 100 4d. The rental for picture entertainments amounted to £3l ss, and a bneeflf night had realised £6 9s 10d. Dances bad brought in a revenue of £l9 5s 9d. Other hall rent amounted to £l4 4s 3d. The expenditure for, the year was £4l 18s 2d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without comment. Mr. S. J. Laughlin heartily congratulated the president and secretary bn the satisfactory state pf affairs which existed In connection with the hall. He had spoken to an official of the Public Works Department regarding the moving of the hall and it had been stated that it would be a long time yet before its removal would be necessary. There was no general election ef officers, as those elected last year had been appointed for three years. Congratulatory remarks were made of the services of the secretary (Mr. T. Vowles) by Messrs C. Stembridge, T. Rice, and R. Phillips, and it was suggested that the secretary should be granted some remuneration. It was decided that an honorarium of £5 for the past year be paid to the secretary. To -fill vacancies on the committee Messrs Richmond (2), Chester, Phillips, and Johansen were elected. In connection with the installation of electric light Mr. Heappy said it was intended to put the light in as soon as the power was available. In proposing that Mr. Rice be reappointed auditor, Mr. Laughlin proposed a vote of; thanks to Mr. Rice for his past services. The motion was carded unanimously and Mi Rice reelected auditor for the ensuing year. J The chairman explained that, the agreement with; Mr, Hamilton, picture proprietor, expired last month. Mr. Hamilton had offered to pay for the ensuing term 15s instead of 12s 6d, and also to give a benefit night, guar - anteeing £lO- Mr. Hamilton’s , offer was accepted. .Ata committee meeting held before the annual meeting the local football club was granted tihe use of the hall for practice, providing any damage was paid for. “SMOKER.” After all business had been transacted a “smoker” was held and various toasts honoured. Mr. Vowles, proposing a toast to the visitors, said it was a pleasure to see the old faces back again, especially those who hiad 'helped the hall in time of; need. He made special mention of Messrs Fleming and Phillips, who Jhad recently commenced a business in Paeroa. . Mr. Phillips in reply said that Netherton and the Hauraki Plains were the backbone of Paeroa. Neth-> erton’s roads were cruel, but their hospitality was good. Mr. Fleming endorsed Mr. Phillips’ remarks regarding Netherton's roads and hospitality. Influenza,.
