TURUA SPORTS GROUND.

PUBLIC CONTROL WANTED. TOWN BOARD APPROACHED. A plea to have the Turua sports ground gazetted as a domain was made to the Turua Town Board bv Messrs G. Gray, A. P. Gardiner, and Chapman, who waited on the Board on behalf of the'Hauraki Plains Athletic and Sports Club and the Turua Fortball Club. : " Mr. Gray, on behalf of the Sports Club, said that some time ago' the club had asked Mr. R W. Bagnall, who owned the sports ground, to have the land gazetted as a domain. Mr. Bagnall replied that he would not give the sports club control, but when the Town Board was constituted he would give the land to the Town Board. Mr Gray thought that the Town Board should get control of the ground r immediately. ■ The Sports Club wished to put it. in order for the coming summer, and it was .also wanted for football grounds. The first step asked of the Board was to gain control of the ground before the win* ter was over. There was a suggestion that the Football Club, Sports Club, and Town Board pay £lff each towards the purchase, but he was .not in favour of that. The money should' be pu« towards fencings He thought the Town Board hsould pot take sole control, but a domain board should be formed. The chairman (Mr. J. Bennett) suggested forming a committee to obtain control of the ground and hand it over for the time being to the Town Board. Mr. Gardiner suggested asking Mr. Bagnall to keep the heavy cattle off the ground in the meantime. The chairman explained that. acres of the ground had been gazetted as a public reserve and a further 7% acres had been offered for £l3OO. Mr. Gray said Mr. Bagnall had given them to understand that when the Town Board was formed the ground would be handed over to the Board. Rather thap miss another season the Board should make an immediate effort to obtain control. ' Mr. Scott said that Mr. McLean ha.J given the football club permission to play on his ground, provided the club made every effort to obtain Mr. Bagnall’s ground as ,a recreation reserve. The chairman stated that Mr.. Bagnall would be in Turua in a few days, and it was decided that Messrs. Bennett (Town Board), G Portepus (Football Club), and G. Gray (Sports Club) be a deputation to wait on MrBagnall to endeavour to acquire control of the recreation ground. ' It also was decided that the Commissioner of Crown Lands be asked whether portion of* the recreation reserve had been gazetted as such.
