STOCK SALES. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., reports:— At Hamilton on Tuesday, May 30. we had an average yarding of cattle and sheep, but the supply of pigs was smaller than usual. The general tone of the cattle market was weak, although most of the yarding was disposed of. The quality of the beef was very plain, but sold at rates quite equal to last week. Steers, unfinished, made from £4 17s 6d to £5 14s; cows, heavy, £4 Ils to £5, lighter weights £3 to £3 10s; forward-condi-tioned steers £4 to £4 ss; forward cows £2 to £2 10s. A draft of 3 to 3%-year store steers frpm the Coast failed to reach the owner’s reserve, and was’ passed in. A draft from a’ different owner was sold, but under slow competition, realising from £2 to £3 Is. There was a fair bidding for 18-months steers, these selling up to £2 6s for a pen of Hereford cattle ; others from 345. Calves were also somewhat easier, although no well-grown lots were penned. Heifers made from 25s to 30s, small and weeds 17s to 21s. Sheep were in failsupply, but values all round were much; easier and competition dull. Fat ewes made to £1 Is ; fat lambs to 19s; forward lambs 14s 6d to 15s 10s; store wethers (mixed age) 22s 6d; fair ewes in lamb to Romney rams 20s 64; lower conditioned ewes 17s 6d. The advertised' line of English Leicester ewes was not disposed of at auction, but was quitted privately at £2 2s each. Pigs were yarded in small numbers and sold well up to last, week’s rates. Choppers to £3 12s; good porkers to light baconers £2 5s to £2 14s ; medium porkers 37s to £2 4s, small £1 Ils to 365; slips 16s to 225; good weaners up to 12s.
