PLAINS COUNTY COUNCIL
THE ANNUAL MEETING. MR. MILLER RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN. T,ho statutory annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council was held in the office of| the clerk, Mr E Walton, at Ngatea on Wednesday. The following were present: Crs. J. C. Miller, T. McLoughlin, A. Chatfield, C. W. Parfitt, W. G, Hayward, J. F. Mayn, E. R. Whitechurch.. The annual meeting of. the Council commenced at noon. The retiring chairman, Mr J. C. Miller, stated that he was not seeking re-election. From some chance remarks which he had heard he believed that it was possible that he would be nominated for the position. He would like to see. a change in the chairmanship and he would not feel hurt if the Council wished to confer the honour on another! councillor. Cr. Parfitt, moving that Cr. Miller be re-elected chairman for the ensuing year, spoke of the good work the retiring chairman had done and of the great deal of, time he had devoted to county work. Cr. Parfitt had much pleasure in nominating Cr. Miller for the position. Cr. McLoughlin seconded the nomination, and complimented Cr,. Miller on the manner in which he had carried out his Work as chiairman. Each member contributed his quota of laudatory remarks of the chairman's past, services. There being no other nominations for the position of chairman, the clerk put the resolution, and Cr. Miller was unanimously eelcted. Mr Miller thanked the councillors for the renewed confidence placed in him. RATES STRUCK. It was decided to levy the following rates in the various ridings: Turua Riding Netherton Riding 2d, Waltakaruru Riding 2%d, Patetonga Riding 2%d, Tahuna Riding 2%d. It was decided to levy in the Turua town area a hate of 2 l-sthd. which is almost equivalent to l%d on the capital value. PUNTS AND METALMessrs Foote Bros, waited on the Council and discussed transport of metal, at the same time reporting that the punt they were repairing for the Council would be ready next week. The punt would be quite suitable for the conveyance of. metal. A price of 5s per yard was quoted for towir.g metal to Wharepoa flerry and Ngatea, provided .the Council granted the use of the Council’s punt and arr ranged "for a satisfactory supply of •metal. BRIDGEKEEPER’S SHACK. Mention was made of. the fact that the bridgekeeper’s-residence was inadequate and that Mn Shaw, the bridgekeeper, had to cook ibis meals outside. This state of affairs was considered to be unsatisfactory, and it- was decided to enlarge the present building. «
