TURUA’S ROAD SCHEME.
... ORIGINAL PROPOSALS WANTED. SUPPORT IN THE TOWNSHIP. The original proposals for a permanent roading scheme for the Turua district, rejected at the recent, poll, was Supported by the ratepayers of the Turua town district at a meeting held in the Victoria Hall on Monday evening. Mr J. Bennett presided over an attendance of about. 20.
The sugegsted scheme to submit three separate loan proposals, one for the North, Central/’ and Southern areas, was discussed. The high rate (about 13s per acre) which Would neecssarily be levied in the tovzn area if the three separate loans were carried, was considered to be prohibitive, whereas if the proposals were carried in one loan the r,ate, :t was stated, would be in the proximity of 8s 3d per As a suggestion to reduce the cost of the proposed work, it was suggested that the permanent roading on the side roads be eliminated- from the scheme. This, however, was not thought to be advisable. Eventually Mr Gardiner proposed that that meeting of Turua ratepayers pledge itself to support the loan proposals in their original fora. On being seconded the motion was carried, there being only one dissentient. At the conclusion of the meeting all those present signed the resolution, which- will later be submitted to the meetings of the other areas.
