BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was held on Thursday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr P. E. Brenan), E. Edwards (deputy-mayor), T. P. Vuglar, W. Marshall, G. Lamb, D. Leach, (Rev.) F. McDonald, W, Bain,-and the clerk, Mr P. C. Furley. CONDOLENCE. The Mayor moved a motion of condolence with Cr. Marshall and relatives on the death of his father. His Worship had intended moving this motion at the previous meeting, but owing to his notes becoming out of order it had been overlooked. —Carried in silence. CATTLE DIPS. The Thames County Council wrote asking for support for the erection of cattle dips, to prevent' cattle-tick spreading all over the district. Cr. Vuglar pointed out that there were only a few people in the borough owning cattle; it was more of a matter for the County Council. — Reply to be sent accordingly. SCHOOL ROAD. Introduced by the deputy-mayor (Cr. E. Edwards), a deputation from the Paeroa District High School Committee waited on the Council with a view to getting a drain cleaned, and a crossing put in. ■ The chairman of the committee (Mr W. H. Taylor) put the case forward on lines already published in the “Gazette” report of the last meeting of the committee. Mr 1.. Garry endorsed Mr Taylor’s remarks, as did Mr C. Cane. The a Mayof thanked the deputation for the brief and lucid manner in which they had expressed their wants, and promised that the Council would inspect, the place on Monday, when making $ general inspection of the roads of the borough, Any large work, however, could only be done out of loap money. Mr Taylor said that a sum Of £3O would cover the cost. -ROADS-AND FOOTPATHS. Complaints were received of the ptate of various roads and footpaths. —Decided to inspect on Monday. . SANITARY BY-LAWS. Cr. Marshall said.it was time sanitary by-flaws- were framed. Cr. McDonald said he. had seen the Mt. Albert recent by-laws, but these would entail very heavy expanse o>. property-owners installing sanitary systems in connexion with the sewerage. It was decided to go into the matter and prepare by-laws for submission to next meeting. DRAINAGE REFERENCE BOARD. Cr. W. Marshall moved that ths Mayor represent the Council on the Thames Valley Reference Board, Cr E. Edwards seconding.—Carried. LEVYING RATES. The following rates were struck for the ensuing year: General, 3%d: hospital, l%d ; lighting, %d; roading loan, %d.
