KEREPEEHI HALL.

SITE FOR PUBLIC BUILDING. GROUND TO BE’PURCHASED. A public meeting ofi Kerepeebi settlers to consider tlbe purchase of. a public hall site was held in the Kerepeehi Hall on Tuesday evening. Mr A, Chatfield was elected to the chair and Mr J. Twist secretary. Mr Chatfield said there had been a movement afoot to purchase a. public hall site., and there had been subscription lists out for that purpose. Probably a body could be formed .0 control the matter. • Mr Twist reported that 'he had received a reply to a letter he had sent to Mr H. M. Skeet, Commissioner of Cr-owr Lands. The reply stated that in 1920 authority, had been obtained for the sale of a section for a public hall site to the Kerepeehi branch of the Farmers’ Union at a price of £2O. The secertary of the local branch of the Union had been advised accordingly at the time, but it appeared that no further action had been taken in the matter. He suggested two methods in defining' arrangements. Trustees could be appointed and the title could be issued in their names. The other method was for the settlers interested to become a registered body under the Incorporated Societies Act and the title be issued to the society.

Mr Chatfield thought the election cf trustees would not be satisfactory and favoured the other suggestion.

Mr Henry suggested having the title vested, in the Public Trustee. Mr Davies moved, and Mr Frecklington seconded, that the hall site *be purchased. The motion was carried.

Mr Davies : I had -some names on my list, but a letter which had ap,-peared-in the paper (the “Gazette”) blocked things.

Mr Chatfield thought there would be no difficulty in obtaining the £2O necessary.

Mr Henry asked, if there weald be any objection to the Sports Chub making a donation. Mr Chatfield replied that he saw no objection to that; in fact he thought it' a good idea. If a tall was built on that site it would be advantageous to the Sports Association. Mr Thompson suggested a more suitable site on the main road. It was a corner section opposite Mr Innis* residence.

Mr Chatfield favoured the site already offered as it, was handier to the show ground. Mr Murdoch asked if the A. and P., Association, could buy the hall site, Mr, Chatfield said that was impossible as it was a public hall site and not for any particular body to buy. Mr Henry moved that the Commissioner of Crown Lands be advised that the settlers had decided to form themselves Into an incorporated society to .purchase the hall site. Mr J. Wilson seconded the motion, which, was carried.

Mr C. S. Hutchinson moved; and Mr Frecklington seconded, that a committee be appointed to control, the purchase ofi the hal-l site. The motion was carried, and the following committee was elected : Messrs Chatfield, Twist, P. L. Davis, A. J, Innis, and J. Wilson.

Mr Frecklington proposed that if there was sufficient money available from the sports association, the association pay all the money for the purchase of the site. Mr Chatfield seconedd.

Mr Davies moved an amendnient that the public subscribe for t,he site and subscription lists be issued. Mr Shelton seconded the amendment. The amendment was carried. Mr Henry considered that the residents of Kerepeehi should go ahead and either build a new hall on the

sFe or purchase the present hall and move it to the public hall site. .■ It would be very suitable for the A. and P. Association. ' x

■ On the motion of Messrs Frecklington and C. S. Hutchinson it was decided that the committee obtain approximate prices for the purchase of 1 the present hall and moving i«, and also the cost, of building a new hall.
