An election to fill the vacancy caused on the Paeroa Borough Council by the resignation of- CL A. White will •be held on Friday. There are two candidates, Mr J. W. Silcock and Mr D. Leach,.

At the Paeroa District High School the gloom of the primers’ sheltershed has been dispelled by the insertione of four windows, transforming the., place from a dark and sombre den to a good playhouse, and at times instruction room; whereas it was formerly used only when need compelled, now it is occupied for preference.

Perhaps it is feared that the city ridel’s will not be able tp negotiate <ll6 bad roads in the Thames Valley.
The Turua Good Roads Committee has \ to judge by the following paragraph from a Palmerston paper, done wisely in favouring tar macadam roads in preference.to concrete: “It is interesting tp note that while the tar macadam roads of Palmerston North are standing heavy and fre.quent traffic without a fault, those experimental pieces pf concrete laid down are crumbling.. Neither as to cost of construction nor lasting qualit’es does the concrete appear to compare favourably .with tarred macadam.
