ROTOKOHU RATEPAYERS.

GENERAL MEETING. A meeting of the Rotokohu Ratepayers’ Association was held on Friday night, Mr T.. P. Vuglar presiding. FINANCIAL. The secretary (Mr W. D. Keys) intimated that the receipt of subscriptions due would be a welcome addition to the treasury. THE CONFERENCE. It was resolved that the Association be strongly represented at the forthcoming conference between the Reference Board and the Public Works Department engineers. Messrs W. Johnstone, W. D. Keys, M.'F. McLeod, were appointed as delegates. IMPROVEMENT WORKS. Delegates were appointed to interview Mr L. Mays, District Engineer, in reference tp the improvement works in the Rotokohu area, with a view to getting works let in areas suitable for various farmers to take up. Messrs Handley, Keys, Campbell, and Ry all were appointed. ROTOKOHU DRAIN.

Referring to Rotokohu drain, Mr Ryall said .the cleaning and deepening needed to .be done at once ; there would be too much delay in waiting for a dredge. There was enough water coming down .the Kaoiti Creek to flood all that area.

Objection was taken to the proposal that a special rating area 'be created. Mr Keys pointed out that rating areas were not formed at Komata and other places where the Department was making drains and widening and deepening existing waterways. A subsidy would be preferable. It was decided that the Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates) be written to on the subject of Rotokohu East Arpin, stating what the settlers were prepared to dp, and asking for the Department’s assistance. Members considered it unfair that the work should be looked on as being of a private nature, after the Department refusing, two years ago, to peimit the settlers'to form a drainage board.
