KEREPEEHI. HALL MOVEMENT. It is understood that there is a movement on fpot in Kerepeehi to erect a public hall, for which a Government section may possibly be obtained. There is at present a privately owned hall, but a number of Kerepeehi residents appear t.p desire a public building. ROAD METALLING. Blue metal is at present being trucked from the Kerepeehi wharf co the Kerepeehi end of the KerepeehiNgatea road, which was in a very bad state during the recent wet weather. T, hough the rough metal will be hard on the tyres for some time there is a great deal of improvement seen in the condition of the road. NETHERTON. ROAD WORKS. A tractor and grader whiph haye been used ip the Netherton riding were moved at the beginning of last week to Waitakaruru, where ‘ they will be used on ■the Miranda Road. TURUA. . THE FACTORY. The Hauraki Plains Dairy Company’s factory at Turua has had a very successful season, and it is hoped to eclipse the previous season’s output (over 500 tons) by about 100 tons. NGATEA. DEBATING SOCIETY. Another interesting and instructional debate was held in the Ngatea Public Hall last Thursday evening when the subject was “Is Education Uplifting to Humanity.” Mr G. T. Davidson occupied the chair. The affirmative was taken by Mr R. E. Jamieson and the negative by the Rev. R G. Hemming. The seconders were Messrs Hutchinson (Kerepeehi) and Mantelow (Ngatea), respectively. After the speeches by the leaders and seconders there was free and wholesome discussion by the large number present, who. later, when a vote was t.aken, pronounced themselves in favour of the negative.

An exceptionally, enjoyable musical programme preceded the debate, th’e following contributing items: Mesdames E. A, Clark, Wheeler, Hendren, Misses E. and R. Hilford, M. Norris, and Mr Jenkins. The excellence of the programme drew congratulatory remarks from the chairman, who complimented those who contributed to its success. He also pointed out the fact that each item was encored.

In order to carry on tfie debates in a systematic way it was decided to appoint, a committee, of which the following were ultimately elected members: Mesdames Hendren, Mantelow, Misses .R. Hilford, E. Jones, Rev. Hemmings, Messrs Hutqhinson, Jenkins, Davidson Hayward, Shultz, Norris, Jamieson, MantelowL and Munro. At a subsequent meeting the committee elected the Rev. Hemmings ar. president, and the following as vice-presidents: Mesdames Hendren, Mantelow, Miss Jones,' Messis Davidson, Hutchinson, and Schultz. The next debate will be “Press v. Pulpit.” and will be held in a fortnight’s time.
