“ON THE BALL.”
PAEBOA BU&BY UNION., 4 THE ANNUAL MEETING. There was a good muster of. enthusiasts at the annual meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union, held on Monday evening, the president, Mr p, E. Brenan, occupying the chair. There were representatives present from the various affiliated clubs, and those present displayed keen interest in the proceedings and wel- . fare of the club., ♦ The annual report, as read by the secretary- (Mr R. B, Penlingtpn) and as published in the “Gazettee” on . Monday, was adopted. . The balance-eheet shewed a credit of £6. afterpayment o.f £34 to ths Coote benefit fund.
Mr J. Walmsley, secretary of the Goldfields Rugby Union, said the re-, marks in the report of that union’s attitude towards the Coote Benefit Fund were unjustified. He had, as secretary, helped the fund, an I moneys were also received from Te Aroha. • Furthermore, the N.Z. Rugby Union did recognise the conference in reference to boundaries, and had the ma tter under consideration; he was in receipt of correspondence on the matter. - . The chairman of the committee, Mr J. W. Silcock, said the headquarters s of the Goldfields Rugby Union was practically at Waihi at the time, and . the receipts from there were 6s. The report stated that .the proceeds from benefic matches were from matches , played at Paeroa, Hikutaia,*! and Te Aroha. In regard to the par£ of.the report dealing with- the boundaries, the word "conference” should have been “boundaries”—that the N.Z.R.U. didnot officially recognise the boundaries.
Mr G. Collins said that Townsend’s Read was morally the boundary, and if Thames was going to contest that, then Paeroa would have to fight tlmm. Letters had been written by a Thames secretary to men as far south' as Somata', asking them to play for Thames. The president said the Paeroa footballers would-be very glad to welcome Hikutaia players in Paeroa. (Hear, hear!) ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: P.ation, Hugh Poland, Esq.; president, P. E. Brenan, Esq; Vice presidents. On the motion of Mr G A. Bus'h, seconded, by Mr, Garry, a question was put that there be only two vice-presidents. * Mr Silcock suggested that there te five, one from each club, which 'sug- 4 ge-tion the mover and seconder of the motion agreed to. Mr G Collins thought the number of vice-presidents should be unlimited. ■ The motion was lost on the voices, and the ' following were elected : Messr? G. E. Collins, G. S. Taiboys, D. Dr. Little, J, Roach, D. Leach, F. Wells, W. Moore, R. Bramley, Mrs Corbett, H. M. Shand, J. T. P. Vuglar, G_> Fallon, E. Edwards, G. P. de Castro, J. Barrett, J. Garry, W. Thorburn. Management. Mr Collins and others remarked that the Paeroa Rugby Union was very fortunate in its secretary. Messrs G; E; Collins and R. Heappy expressed the hope that the interclub contests would be “home ■ and home” matches, 'with which sentiment the meeting agreed. Mr Collins said he fully allowed that Uhe final round should be played at headquarters. . - Mr A. Bush : Yes, because at headquarters the biggest gate would be expected. On the motion of Mr Heappy, seconded by Mr Otten the matter of selectors was left to the management committee, as formerly. , In a recent report in reference to the West Football Club a mistake in respect to names Occurred. It was stated that a medal was presented to the club by Mrs A. Bush, whereas the donor was Mr F. J. Wells. WEST V. TE AROHA. A match will .take place in the Domain on Saturday.
