TURUA TOWN BOARD.
THE FIRST MEETING, % . =- . MR. J. M. BENNETT CHAIRMAN The first meeting of the Turua Town Board was held in Messrs Miller and Son’s offices, Turua, yesterday. • The members recently elected are Messrs A. C, Scott, E.' L. Whimp, J. M. Bennett, F. Olsen, J. T. Davies l , J. Mules, and Ahsford, all of whom were present at the first meeting, along with the returning officer, Mr J. E. Green. * Mr Green read the Government, Gazette notices declaring the formation of the, Board and indicating the procedure whidhi might be .adopted. Mr J. M. Bennett was elected chairman and Mr C. Ansford deputy-chair-man. It was decided to invite applications for the position of clerk for the Beard, applications to close within sevemdays. The Board resolved to meet on the first Wednesday ofl every month at 7 p.m. it was decided that the Board bank with the Bank of N.Z. The following finance committee was 1 appointed: Messrs Bennett, Ansford, and Scott. Messrs Bryan and Walker were appointed solicitors to the Board. Capital value was adopted by the Board ns its rating system. The advisability of forming a works committee was discussed, and it was eventually resolved to appoint two works supervisors for. the ensuing month. Messrs Bennett and Scott were elected in that capacity. MAKING A START. Mr Davies mentioned that a bridge near J.he school was in a bad condition. Mr Ansford said that the bridge was a disgrace to the place. Messrs Olsen and Ansford volunteered to repair the bridge, and their offers were accepted. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr J. E. Green for his services.
