GOLF.
OPENING OF SEASON. There was a large muster of golf enthusiasts on the local links on Saturday to take part in the opening of the golf season. Included in those who took part .were a number o'.’ visitors from the adjoining ’clubs. The afternoon was ideal for outside sport, and in that respect there could not be anything but enjoyment. The president, Mr Arch. White,, in extending a welcome to the visitors, expressed a hope that they would meet in inter-lclub matches during the season. He looked forward to the club having a record golfing season, an/ judging by the number of applications for membership this would be so. He formally declared the links open for play, The game for the afternoon was a mixed fores'ome. Delicious afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies on the balcony of the stewards’ stand, which had been kindly put at the club’s disposal by’ the Ohinemuri Jockey dub, and which was heartily appreciated by the large gathering present.
