FOOTBALL.
NOTES FROM THE PLAINS SIX CL.UBS POSSIBLE.. The Hauraki Plains* clubs have made an early start this season, and the enthusiasm shown at this early stage points to keen competition and a successful year. It was at first thought that four clubs would be affiliating with the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union, but latest advices indicate that the number will most likely reach six. Kerepeehi and Maramarua have been mentioned as likely tp enter teams;, and with the inclusion of these new clubs the competitions will no doubt be exceedingly interesting this season.
There was a good muster at the annual meeting of the Patetonga Club. Mr J. Costello was re-elected president and Mr Dalgleish appointed hon.-secretary. The delegates to the Rugby Union are Messrs T. Casn and R. ■ McCollough. Other business was deferred tp a future meeting. With the clubs’ annual meetings over, the next event in the Plains football circles is the annual meeting of the Rugby Union, which is set down for next Wednesday. Among the names of the club delegates are those who take a very keen interest "in the welfare-of the sport, so that the affairs of the Union will be in good hands. Turua’s affiliation with the Plains Union is still indefinite, though probable. The club members appear to favour breaking flrpm Thames -and throwing in their«lot with the plains, but the delegates have been instructed to inquire fully into ths position and report to another general' meeting of the club. In the interests of the game on the Plains'it is. to ne hoped that the conditions will' be suitable tp Turua, as a competition with an even number of teams will be far more interesting than an odd number, which necessitates, at least one team being idle each week. .
The different club members gre now practicing assiduously, and each ’ Saturday’ practice matches are arranged. The club selectors, will have no easy task in selecting their fifteens, as the young blood is rapidly coming tp the fore, and what it lacks in experience is made up wit'hdgsh and enthusiasm which some of the older and - more experienced might emulate. . A meeting of Kerepeehi footballers was held last week, and it was decided that if sufficient support i* available a club will be formed, and two teams will be entered in the competitions under the jurisdiction of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union, Mr G. A- Avey was elected secretary. The election of other officers was deferred to a later meeting. - The formation of a club at Kerepeehi will undoubtedly weaken the Ngatea teams, but in the interests of the sport generally it is to; be hoped that Kerepeehi’s commendable effort will receive Ngatea’s support l and sympathy. The first inter-club practice is to be played between* Patetonga and Waitakaruru at Patetonga on Saturday. KOMATA CLUB. Keen interest -was shown in the meeting on Friday everj.jg, convened to form a new club ui der the Paeroa Rugby Union, the attendance being larger than at any. qthqr .club meeting. Mr W. Thorburn, convener of the meeting, said he was pleased to see such a good attendance, which augured well for the new club. On the motion o)F Mr W. Thorburn Mr V. Dunlop was voted to the cfhair. The chairman remarked that before electing officers and committee' it would be as well to knpw the number- of players, and he called for the names of those who intended to play for the new club. A list of 37 names was made out. The chairman moved that a club be formed, to be called the Komata Club. Seconded by Mr E.. Moore, and carried. , The following-officers were elected: Patron, Mr P. R. Hubbard ; president, Mr V. Dunlop; vice-presidentr, Messrs J. Irwin, J. Howie, R., Simpson, F. Hubbard, L. Killgour, W. Thorburn, J. Benney, P. Ryan-. .1. Morrison, C. Price, G. Vpwles, W. Wight, H.
