ERIN GO JAM.
HUMOROUS LETTER. Over the signature of Tim O’Fiaherty, tjhe following amusing letter appeared in the Nga'ruawahia “ Advocate ”: INDUSTRIES., Sorr, —Me counthryman Barney O’Heo who racintly. wrote yez a letther about starting- a jam factory here is no Irishman or he wuddent have sthopped short at imajinin big green labels wid his name on. For mesilf, I dont like jam and never, did since the day I t|uk the top of me little finger off in a. door, but no man from Kerry, Cork, or Tipperary wud let such a small thing ,as the price of land /or want of munney stand in the way av a big idea. Annyhow what is the pore ' man thinking about. Wud, he think that a bit av ground for a factory wud be given away wid a pound av cheese to annywon wid green in the whpite av his eye. For meself, I intind to start a woollen works, an if I don’t, t’won’t be the price av the ground that stop me turnin wool into weskits. Sorr, ye have a noice little place here, but ye want) some more Irishmen, not wans like me frind Blarny O’Hea, who I do not know, and do not want to see, him being av the down-hearted type, but the rale rid-headed sort, which has enough imaiination to see things, but isn’t scared stiff by imaji.nary obstacles without anny existence,.. Now. if Barney O’Hea will build his jam place, I’ll find the land for him and arrange to take out the proice in jam.
