HAURAKI PLAINS RATES.
THE YEAR’S TOTALS. Some interesting figures in connection with the collection of rates by tihc Hauraki Plains County Council are contained in< the. balancesheet at present being prepared by the clerk, Mr E. Walton, for the year ending fast Friday, March 31. Naturally, the balance-sheet is as yet incomplete, but the main items of interest regarding the collection of rates have been picked out and are given below. Further particulars of the balance-sheet will be given at a later date. General rates were received as follows : Turua Riding.—For year 1921-22, £l3OO ,16s 6d ; for 1920-21, £396 10s 9d; for previous year, £215 13s lOd. Total, £1913 Is Id. Waitakaruru Riding.—For year 1921-22, £240 2s Id ; for 1920.21, £367 16s 3d; for previous year, £lO6 13s 3d. Total, £714 Ils, 7d. Patetonga Riding.—For year 192122, £264 10s 5d ; for 1920i21, £2BB 7s Id; for previous year, £7O 18s 2d. TotnT, £623 15s Bd.. Netherton Riding.—For year, 192122, £9OO Is lid; for 1920h21, £561 19s 2d ; for previous year, £96 8s 7d. Total, £1558 9s Bd. Tahuna Riding.—For year 1921-22, £369 2s 8d ; for, 1920-21, £206 Is 7d; for previous year, £64 3s 4d. Total, £639 7s 7d.
The total general rates collected are £5449 5s 7d. For the. year 1920-21 the following rates arc outstanding: General; European, £5BO Bs, Maori £399 12s 6d. Hospital: European £242 19s 6d, Maori £127 6s 3d. For the year 1921-22 the total genera] rates struck amounted to £7539 3s Id., Of this £3074' 13s 7d has been paid, leaving £4464 9s 9d outstanding. The total . hospital rates struck amounted to £2472 18s 7d, of whicii £1205 8s 8d has been paid, leaving £1267 9s lid outstanding. Amcng the miscellaneous receipts are: Penalty on rates, £79 9s 3d; Wharepoa ferry rents, £76 19s 6d; Netheiton ferry rent, £27; motor registration, £1 5s ; slaughterhouse ' licenses, £3; subsidy on general rates, £5BO Is lOd; packet license, £10; metal supplied from Hikutaia quarry, £219 6s; sundries, £lll ,19s lid. The total hospital rates collected during the year amounted tp £2149 Is 9d of which the sum of £1205 8s 8d was for the year 1921422, £826 9s 6d for the year 1920-21, and £lO7 3s 7d for the period prior to that datp. The credit balance at April 1, 1921, on the hospital rates was £23B' 16s 6di, bui at March 31, 1922, there was a debit of £473 19s The total paid to the Hosiptal Board was £2858 14s 7d. P.ates amounting to £3 3s 3d were refunded;
