FOOTBALL.
ANNUAL MEETINGS. SUBURBS CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Sub-, urbs Football Club, held bn Thursday evening last, about 100 members and visitors were present Mr G. Collins presided, and with him on the platform were Mrs J. Corbett, patron of the club, and Messrs W. H. Alley and A. R. Robinson, president and vice-president, respectively, and J. W. Silcock, chairman of 'the Paeroa Rugby Union. Messrs F. Wells, D. McWatters, and G.' Otter, members of the Paeroa Rugby Union, were also presold REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET... The annual report stated that the club decided tp withdraw from the Thames Rugby Union, Owing to trouble with the Union it; was thought advisable to change the name of the club to Suburbs Club, and as such play under the. Paeroa Union. Two teams were entered in the competitions, a senior and a .junior, and ths seniors were successful in winning the cup. Out of six games played ■the seniors won four, drew one, and lost one. Quite a fair percentage of the seniors played for. the representative teams, five being in the Goldfields representative • team and pine in. the Paeroa team, For winning the Cup Mr A, R. Robinson had donated caps to the senior team. Mr W. Watson had donated a medal for the best senior back, which was won by J. Winder. A medal presented by Mr T. Eiasa for the best senior forward had been won by G. Fisher. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £25 18s.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ■ OFFICERS, The, election of officers resulted as follows : Patron, Mrs J. Corbett; president, Mr W. H. Alley; secretary and treasures, Mr A; K. Alley; committee, Messrs G. G.. Asher, W. Welch, P. Corbett, G. Collins, W. Norton, W. K. Morrison, Johnston, Bailley, and D. Maloney; selectors, Messrs W. K. Morrison (seniors) and W. Welch (juniors) ; social committee,' Messrs F. Hill, P, Corbett, A. Samson, G. Asher, A'. J. Maloney, and E. Samson. THANKS. Mr Norton moved a vote of thanks to the selectors, Messrs G. Collins and A. K. Alley. Mr Alley had also acted as secretary, and Mr Norton moved that; the secretary be donated £5 for the valuable . work he had done..—Carried amidst applause. Mr Collins and Mr Alley suitably responded. THIS YEAR’S TEAMS.. Mr Norton moved that the Hikutaia Club enter a senior and a junior team in the Paeroa' Rugby Union Cup competitions. The chairman said that he would not be in favour of accepting playei's from north of Townsend’s Road, near Wharepoa, This road was observed as last year’s. boundary, and he thought it would suit this year’s purposes. Mr. Norton’s motion was carried. Members expressed the opinion that if the Matariri juniors did not compete this year the Thames Rugby Union should not object to the Hikutaia Football Club drawing from the players in that area. CAPS PRESENTED. After the annual meeting Mrs Corbett presented the caps to the members of the senior team. Mr Robinson, who donated the caps, said he had been very pleased to see the Hikutaia seniors win the cup, and would be better pleased if they won it. again this season. Mr J. W. Silcock, on behalf of the Paeroa Rugby Union, thanked the donors of trophies, as such gifts furthered competition in the game. The president ofl the club, Mr W. H. Alley, on behalf of Mrs Corbett and himself, thanked all for the many kind references that they had made. He hoped that football this
season would be even more successful than last year. SOCIAL EVENING. After the presentation of caps a social evening was held, Mr G. Collins presiding. After the tba-st of the King had honoured Mr W. J. Norton, in proposing the toasti of the Paeroa Rugby Union, said .that the Hikutaia Club was quite satisfied with the treatment which they had received under the x Paeroa Union., Responding, Mr J. W. Silcock said -hat he was glad to see the Hikutaia Club again in strong force. This year if they had the help of the Hikutaia players they hoped to have te Peace Cup in Paeroa. The Paer roa Union, as span as possible, was going to challenge the Thames Rrtgby Union for the cup. He would like to see Hikutaia this year place in the field a third-grade team.. The Paeroa Union was out to foster school and third-grade football. ' A lengthy toast-list was gone through, and during the evening Messrs W. Hill, El Moore, A. Williams, R; Samson, McNeil, and E Samson sang songs., Mr A. Williams was the accompanist
