BUTTER PRICES.
RISE PROBABLY PERMANENT. MR. BUCHANAN’S VIEWS. Asked by a representative of the “Gazette.” soirie Few days ago ,as to whether or not the rise in the price of butter, as reported in the daily papers, was likely to be permanent,Mr Geo. Buchanan, local director of the N.Z, Co-operative Dairy Cox, Ltd., said he was confident about the situation. The surplus on the Home market was now disposed of, and owing to -the internal conditions in the great producing 'or instance —onr butter would be in steady deihand. We might get Is 6d per lb, which would mean, say, Is I'd to the producer, which was much better than the prospect of or Is. He was satisfied that the sending of -the Company’s managing director (Mr W. Goodfellow) to England was a good policy, |for the selling end had now been placed in capable hands, and our interests would be watched very closely. It was too soon to make any definite statement, and the market had not yet crystallised into stability, but the outlook was distinctly encouraging. He believed that we were well over the and although war; prices were now beyond the purchasing-power ot- -the British public, nevertheless our butter, which, was advertised and marketed under special brands], was in greater demand than ever, and as long as the quality was kept up the producers here had nothing to fear.
