HIGH SPRING TIDES.

FLOODING ON THE PLAINS*. Usually the spring tides do not have any detrimental effects in the tidal rivers of the Thames Valley and Hauraki Plains. The recent tides, however, ,ha.ve been exceptionally high, and some flooding has been tlhe result, though as far as is at present known there 'has been no serious effects, The Piako River on Friday was bank high at full tida and the water threatened to encroach on the paddocks and roads. The failure of a, flood-gate along the river road from Ngatea to Rawerawe allowed the water easy access to the road at one point, completely covering a bridge. On the opposite side of the river at Horohia a damaged stop bank let the water through on to a paddock owned by Mr F. Kneebone, and within a few inches of the surface of the road. The land in the vicinity of the Wharepoa ferry, had mope than its share of water. At high tide on Friday some paddocks on both sides were flooded, those on the Wharepoa side suffering most. It was estimated that the road for some distance and tlhe adjacent paddocks were at one time 3 foot under water. The road was in consequence in a very watery state when the tide subsided. The paddocks still contained water up till the time of writing.
