AUTUMN LEAVES.

MRS. JAMES MCANDREW Paeroa lias lost yet another pf its pioneers, in the person of Mrs McAndrew, relict of the late Mr James McAndrew, onC-time proprietor of the Paeroa Joinery Works, now Messrs Lamb and Co. The deceased lady, who was just, on 75 years of age, died at her late residence, Puke Road, Paeroa, at 11.30 o’clock on Sunday night. Seven years ago Mrs McAndrew suffered an attack of heart trouble, and had been ailing ever since. During the past four months her condition ne>came very poor, although she was able to get about the house up till Sunday. The late Mi's McAndrew was a native of Belfast (Ireland), and came to New Zealand on the "Zelder Zeigler,” about 54 years ago, and was married some four years laten, residing at Thames, and coming to Paeroa some 28 years ago. fa Hits district the deceased lady was very prominent in all social activities. She had been a staunch member of the Paeroa Presbyterian Church ever since its inauguration, and year after year, right up tp her death almost, worked for its advancement. She was als.o, with 'the late Mrs Edwin Edwards, one of the foremost workers and exhibitors in connection with: the old Ohinemuri A. and P. Society, particularly with’ the horticultural division. The money how in hand by the Paeroa. Hospital Trustees for a hospital at Paeroa was largely collected by /the two deceased ladies mentioned, ' they having canvassed both Paeroa and Te Aroha for funds. In many other social act tivities the late Mrs McAndrew was a leading spirit, and the good that she did certainly lives after her. The late Mr James McAndrew predeceased his wife by some twenty years. He was a prominent figure in the district, having been Mayor if Thames in 1889-90$, and being' reelected unopposed he filled the mayoral chair until 1893. He was also a member oS the Ohinemuri County Council, the Thames Harbour Board, and other local bodies. He came tp Paeroa in 1893, owning the joiner;/ works alluded to above. Tlie bereaved are two sons and two daughters], Mr Norman McAndrew (Auckland), Mr George McAndrew, Mrs W. A. Kenny, and Mrs D. Craig, all of Paeroa. The funeral Hakes place at'2.3o p.m. to-morrow, interment being at the Paeroa Cemetery. ■
