KIRIKIRI BRIDGE.
PROPOSED STRUCTURE DISCUSSED. MR. POWELL MEETS COUNCIL. Further preliminary negotiations with regard to the proposed bridge across, the Waihou River at Kirikiri were made at Monday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council, Mr F. E. Powell attended the meeting and submitted his report, which.is printed below. Mr Powell explained tjiat the position of the labour market and the cost of material would be that a saving should be made if a swing span at present suggested were used. The total cost of the bridge would be increased by about £3OOO. Cr. Mayn expressed'an opinion that the span at present suggested should be used. The speaker appreciated the valuable assistance of Mr E. F. Adams, civil engineer, of Thames. The decking, continued Mr Powell, would be the only actual concreting work that would be done on tjie river. All the concrete work would be done on the river banks. A refuge for pedestrians could be erected if it were deemed necessary. Cr, Harris said, supposing thp total cost was £60.000, the Th,ames County Counc’i. would pay £6OOO. If a £ for £ subsidy was obtained from the Government, the cost to the Thamas Borough and the v Hauraki Plains County would be £12,000 ea'ch. If only 15s in the £ subsidy were granted, then each would be responsible for £15,750. Or. Parfitt moved, and Cr. Harris seconded; that the Hauraki Plains Countv Council adopts tihe plans for the construction of a bridge across the Waihou River at Kirikiri. The motion was carried..
