BOROUGH BUSINESS.

COUNCIL REPORTS. The following reports were submitted to the Paeroa Borough Council at the last meeting:— WORKS FOREMAN'S REPORT. The woik duriv r the past three weeks has bee 3 patching and repairing of c.m low places and water courses m the sides of the Thames Road. The water pipes have also been covered and made safe for wheeled traffic. I have had the two bridges on the Station Road made safe for traffic; this road has also been patched with metal where required and is in fair order. Owing .to the flood waters I have been unabje to have the Station Road drain’cleaned. I have had some bad holes in Fraser Street filled with metal from Silcpck’s quarry. At present I am having the sides of Station Road chipped and cleaned; this path is in a very bad state owing to the swampy parts sinking, which leaves the path very muddy and lumpy in wet weather. The drain from the bridge up the Old Te Aroha road requires to be cleaned, the water lies on the road and has been since the last flood. The approximate cost of cleaning, piping, channelling, and filling three and a half chains of drain from the railway to 'opposite Station Road would be £l7B.—To be taken in hand during the next financial year. Re tarring and sanding the main street footpaths.—The path from the railway to William Street would have to be taken up and renewed, and from William Street to Wharf Street patched with compo and tar.red and sanded at a cost of about £lO9. From Crosby’s boardinghouse corner co Victoria Street would require a .fair amount of patching- with compo to fill in the holes, and to tar and sand this path would cost about £lBO. — Decided to carry out the above recommendation.

BUILDING COMMITTEE.

Your committtee beg to repprt that during the past three weeks they have granted Mr W. Cullen’s applica-i tion to erect a shop in Normanby Road,, next to Mr Me Watters’ sliop. This matter was left to your committee with power to act at the February meeting. Applications have been received from Messrs Spry, Rickard, and Davies for minor alterations. These your committee have granted subject to the by-laws being complied with, and we ask your endorsement for same.

FINANCE COMMITTEE. Your committee beg to report that during the month the revenue has amounted to £IXI 14s and expenditure to £79 18s lid,, Including the attached account, which your Committie recommend for payment the balance on the District Fund Act count will amount to £262 12s Id. Tie drainage and roading loans.— Your committee recommend that application be now made for the State Advances office for a further sum of £BOOO for sewerage and £2OOO for roading and footpath improvements. It is essential that the money to be raised in the coming financial year be secured early, so that the Council can meet their commitments. A Gratifying Forecast. Re Local Bodies Finance Bill.— The Town, Clerk has prepared a rough balance-sheet to date, which shows that the Council should have practically no antecedent liability on the 31st inst.
