MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was held' on Thursday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr P. E. Brenan), Crs. E. Edwards (Deputy-Mayor), W. Bain, Rev. F. McDonald, G. Lamb, Arch. White, W. Marshall, F. E. Flatt, T. P. Vuglar, and the town clerk, Mr P. C. Furley. drainage. Discussion took place in regard io the condition of Puke Road drains, Cr, Marshall stating that in som? .cases the drains were in an unhealthy condition.' Cr, Edwards thought the whole of the drains should be considered together. Cr. Marshall said the drain on the Puke Road should be attended to at once, as its condition was a danger to public health. The Mayor considered that drainage by a local body should be done out of a special rate, although if funds permitted it was quite right to spend general rates, on outfall drains. Cr Vuglar protested that the drains referred to ought to be attended to at once. If the Council would give him and his adjoining property-own-er their rates he Would guarantee to put in a concrete road from the Paeroa bridge and keep the drain in order. and it would be the only good road in Paeroa.- —Left to the works committee, with power to act. It was decided to clear the main outfall, drain of debris and blackberry to remove the present impediments to the flow of the water. Cr. Bain said the drain froffi Puke Road to Rye Lane was in a disgraceful state. Tlie foreman was authorised to do urgent work.
