MILLION AND A QUARTER VALUE.’ There is a lively desire on the part of progressive citizens to put forward the good points of the Thames Valley and Hauraki Plains, especially as an offset to the decline of mining and the unfavourable impression created by the occasional floods this area is subject to. No more telling matter than the figures of dairy production could be used, the value of which in one year- approximated a million and a quarter sterling in value. By way of illustration of the great fertility of the district the following figures of 1920-21 season may pertinently be repeated : . CHEESE.
The above produce was turned out at a time when prices were high. Working out the value of the Paeroa factory butter output at 2s 6d per lb, the total comes to £221,200 for the central factory. The above figures refer to the N.Z.. Co operative Dairy Co., Ltd., factories, to which the output of smaller concerns in the .district must be added to get the grand total.
