ELECTRIC POWER LINES.
CONSTRUCTION TO TURUA. Invited' to Friday’s meeting of the Turua branch of the Farmers’ Union, Mr J- C. Miller, a member of the Thames Valley Power Board, in detailing the board’s operations on the Hauraki Plains, said the board hal endeavoured to expedite th® erection of the poles in the summer time, otherwise a whole year would be lost. It had been suggested that contractors and new men should be put on the work, but the engineers had opposed the suggestion, stating that there had previously been trouble with work done on contract. Some members and two engineers of the board had recently toured the Plains, visiting . Kerepeehi, Kopuarahi, Orongo, and Turua. They had asserted that the first line should be from Paeroa to Turua. It had been decided to put three gangs on that section immediately, but they had not arrived yet. Mr Miller, replying to questions as to how the . power would be sold to the farmers and the business people, said that the farmer would pay according to his output of l butter-fat, while the business establishments would have meters installed. He thought that before long all would be installed with meters.
