WAITAKARURU. TELEPHONE LfNES. The telephone line from Auckland t’o Paeroa has been completed along the Miranda Road as far as Waitakaruru settlement. A start has been made erecting the poles along the Waitakaruru-Pipiroa Road. KITCHEN EVENING. On the occasion of his approaching marriage with Miss A. Dobson, of Paeroa, Mr N. Hedges, of Waitaka--I’urii, was given a kitchen evening, the guests arriving with sundry kitchen utensils varying in shape and size. A very pleasant evening was spent, all wishing Mr Hedges every happiness and prosperity in his new sphere of life. PIPIROA. ROAD METALLING. The metalling of the road to Ngatfea in the vicinity of Dalgety’s corner is proceeding rapidly and now the truck rails are laid to within a few yards of the point where the clay road ceases. Sb far a lot of metal has not been broken up, but even tne rough metal is preferable to the sticky mud in the wet weather. / NGATEA. /. ODDFELLOWS’ LODGE. A meeting of intending members of the proposed Oddfellows 1 Lodge at Ngatea was held in the hall on Wednesday evening. It was decided to. defer the business in hand till the following Wednesday. THE ROADS. A portion of road at the saleyards corner, on the Ngatea-Waitakaruru Road, is being metalled, and a large gang of men is engaged in laying down and breaking up the metal. THE RAIN. The driving Tain yesterday, accompanied with strong winds, thought not very heavy, has been welcomed by the farming community generally, and besides benefiting the crops will replenish the water supply to those who rely on tanks for their water. WAITAKABURU. : ! ) ■ PARLIAMENTARY TOUR.-' At the Farmers’ Union meeting last week the matter of the district entertaining the Parliamentary party was brought forward by the chairmap, as member of the County Council, who requested the assistance and cp-top-t eration of the district generally, particularly the Farmers’ Union, in bringing before the Paidiamentary party the urgent needs of the district and also making provision for a light lunch as they pass through. It was decided that the Farmers’ Uniop should call a public meeting about 10 days prior to the suggested visit, asking the general public to assist in every way to bring the ur-' rangements to a successful issue. ' Jt was requested that in the parliamentary itinerary to have that portion of the Pokeno Road from Haley's corner to the county boundary traversed by the parliamentarians as well as the-Miranda Road. 4 MEAT POOL. A copy of the Meat Pool Bill was received, from Mr T. W. Rhodes, M.P., with'his compliments, the copy being laid on the table for the perusal of the members;
