FARMERS’ UNION.
WAITAKARURU BRANCHI A meeting pf the Waitakaruru branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held in Mr Elliott’s rooms qn Wednesday evening. There were present Messrs C. W. Harris (chairman), H. Fraser, R. T. Williams, G. French, I. Haley, R. Slack, C. Adams, and N. Hedge, secretary An apology was received from Mr S. P. Caie, who was unavoidably absent. . COMING ELECTIONS. A circular from the provincial sec-, rotary stating that it was the intern tion of the Farmers’ Union to select candidates for six different electorates in the Auckland province to contest the next election in Thames,Ohinemuri, Waikatp,. Waitomo/ Mars'den, and Bay of Islands. It was their intention to appoint a party leader, who would address' the differieut branches and recommend their selection of candidates, but it was open to any district that if it d-id n °t approve Of the selection to nominate a man of their own choice. On the motion of Messrs Williams and French it was decided to reply affirming the principle of supporting farmers’ candidates, but deferring further consideration until they were 1 informed of the names of. the suggested candidates, being’prepared, to sujh port the candidate if he was suitable for their views. CALF CLUB. * A letter stated that the A'gricul-t tural Department had assisted farmers in establishing calf clubs and. would be pleased to further communicate with the Waitakaruru branch should the school children be interested in the formation of such a club. The matter was referred to the headmaster of the local school, Mr Griffith, asking his co-piieratiQn in the matter., BAKERY BUSINESS. A letter from Mi; Montgomery, s of Mercury Bay, who was contemplating establishing,a bakery on the Plains, asked for particulars of the possiib-h ity of obtaining a residence, and.also wishing to know i)f any sections were available for building sites. ’ Mr Montgomery was informed that a house could be-obtained within .a reasonable distance of the township, and that sections on the Government reserve were now available for selection. UNION CONFERENCE. , A letter was received from the provincial secretary ’ asking that any remits the branch may desire to place before the coming conference be forwarded to them at an early date,
