BOROUGH FINANCE.

FINANCE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. The following report was submitted by /he Finance Committee at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council : “Your Committee begs to report that during the month, the revenue has amounted to £346 8s 2d, and expenditure £436 3s 2d. Including the attached accounts’ which your Committee. recommends for payment,, the balance on the District Fund Account amounts to £420 ss.

“During the last fprtnight the Borough Recounts and books have been audited by the Government auditor. As this work was only completed on the eve of this meeting, the various matters appertaining to finance which your Committee had intended going fully into, have to be left over. This work, however, will be attended to after tonight’s meeting.

“The auditor has intimated that it is necessary to refund to the Loan Account the £25 15s, representing poll expenses, 1 which was paid from the District Fund Account. This is the only Council transaction which was questioned during the audit. During the month £lOOO reading loan has been lodged to the Council’s credit at the bank. An amount of £Bl2 18s 8d lias to be transferred to the Sewerage Loan Account, which leaves’ a credit balance on the Road-, ing Loan Account of £lB7 is 4d. This amount is now available for the storm-'water drainage, etc., of Belmont Road at the railway station which the Council agreed to undertake When this instalment came to hand. We recommend, therefore, that this work of piping the drain and putting down concrete channels be undertaken by contract, at a cost not exceeding £lBO. “Circulars have been printed demanding payment of outstanding rates, and they will be issued in a few days. “We recommend that Mr Stansfield’--application be granted, on the terms asked for, for this year only.’’ The Finance Committee’s repo-’t was adopted.
