PUKEKOHE OPINION
ON CHAUTAUQUA. The “Franklin Times” (Pukekohe) writes “The Pukekohe Chautauqua, season has been very-successful, and those who have attended so fan are very enthusiastic over the prospects of a return visit next year. The old prejudice against the American flavour ‘of the name is breaking down, and people are realising that Chau- ■ tauqua stands for brilliant entertain- . meat and broad-minded, interesting lectures on topics which, under ordinary circumstances, folk, in country towns would probably never have the opportunity of hearing. “The Chautauqua officials have been kindness itself, and under difficult lighting conditions, etc., have carried on. The local .committee, who are really the. sponsors for Chautauqua in Pukekohe, should be thanked • and congratulated for the fine public service they hp.ve really done the town. Without doubt. Chautauqua is an, institution which has come to stay.” It is since reported that for the third time residents ofl Pukekohe have signed a guarantee for the return of Chautauqua. The programme was so good that the people are enthusiastic cally in favour of a 1923 season.
