DISTRICT NEWS.

PATETONGA. TELEPHONE Of the 84 Patetonga settlers who , had been awaiting telephone connecI tions most -have now telephones in--1 stalled, though they are not yet con'nected with the post office, and can only ring others on their party lines. The day each party line .was complet- ! ed householders . were not given a chance, to forget that they had a tele--1 phone in the house, as one after another made some excuse to talk over the wire to his neighbouri. When the party lines are connected with the , post office the Patetonga people wi\l I no doubt find the new instalments I very convenient for them in cases of iurgency. NGATEA. NEGLECTED TENNIS COURT. Ever since the Christmas holidays the few tennis enthusiasts lin Ngatea have apparently forgotten that they possess racquets. The courts have been neglected, and the quicklybgrowing grass, is now a prominent feature on the once we’Hkept lawn. One evening' this week a few interested ones were seen endeavouring to cut the grass with a lawn mower, but this was soon found to be impossible, owing to the length to which the grass had grown. The next ■. morning a scythe was employed and the court is now regaining its once neat appearance.

The question of reviving the Ngai tea club has occupied the attention of one or two. Since the late secretary (Mr Macken) left the district the club has been “dead,” and it is the hope of those few interested ones that when the court is again presentable interest will be re-awakened among the Ngatea tennis club members.
