COUNTY RETRENCHMENT
WAGES TO BE REDUCED. - The Hprowhenua County Council spent some time In committee at Saturday’s meeting in considering the financial position and the question of retrenchment. After considerable dis-i cussion Cr. Monk moved, Cr. Broadbelt seconded, and it was carried: “That one month’s notice of their discharge be given to all our roadmen, the foreman, and carpenter, and that fresh applications be called at the following rates: Men 12s 6d, foreman. 14s, carpenter 18s, 48 hours a week to be worked and holidays to be as follows : Not more than 12 working days for the 12 months ; that fresh applications be called , to be in by February 10, the date of the appointments to be February 20.”
The present rates being paid by the Council are: Men 13s 6d per day, foreman 16s, and carpenter £l.
On the motion of Cr. McLeavey, sec ended by Cr. Knox, it was resolved that the following rates be paid for teams : One horse 225, two horses 28s> three horses 34 s, and four horses 40s The rates being paid now are onehorse team 255, two horses 32s 6d. three horses £2. and four hroses £2 10s.—-Levin "Chronicle.”
