THE NEW DREDGES.
DELAY IN ASSEMBLING. Owing to several parts for the Lands Department’s new dredges bc-< ing short shipped, there has been com siderable delay in assembling the Bucyrus dredge at Ngai-ua and the - rood machine at Kerepeehi. Another fact partly attributable to the delay is that the American, firms, from which the new dredges have been acquired, send very meagre instructions for erection. The British firms have been noted for their accurate and detailed instructions and - plans for assembling and notes on the working of the machines. Mr E. Taylor, resident engineer, in commenting on these facts said it was proverbial that British manufacturers sent instructions for all things, even for the use of a tin opener. The dredge at Ngarua is nearing completion, and the other day s'ome of the machinery was being tried out : When completed this machine will h® set to work on the Ngarua canal. all
