The resident engineer next appeared on the scene to put matters oh a proper footing, but he in his turn was forced to retreat. The constable resident at Kerepeehi was called in, and he was roughly handled. These incidents had their sequel in the Thames Police Court today, when the defendant, a Maori Woman named Penepi Hoani. was fined £5 for assaulting Constable James Michael Devereaux in the execution of his duties, in default.one month’s imprisonment. She was also bound over to keep the peace for one month.
