MANAGER-SECRETARY’S REPORT.

| The manager-secretary of the Thames Valley Eletcric Power Board reported as follows to his board at the monthly meeting on Tuesday : The works were .shut down from December 23 to January 5; with the exception of transformer alterations, which employed several men. SWITCHES TAMPERED WITH., On the morning of January 4 the oil switch at Waikino was thrown out at 12.30. It indicated as if same had been deliberately tampered with. I have communicated with the Department with reference to same, and they have agreed to personally supers vise this in future. There is correspondence before you to-day on the subject. SHIPMENT OF POLES. The Louis Theriaiilt has discharged the shipment ofl poles, and tenders are being called this day for deliver-; ing poles on the Hauraki Plains by punt from the dump at Kopu. Thia should enable work to be proceeded, with on the Plains immediately. 1 Would recommend that the Board concentrate on the erection of poles only on the Plains territory,, for the present, in order that advantage can oe taken of the dry weather, and the wiring of same can be commenced when the pole erection conditions are not favourable. Tenders for deliveries of poles are as follows: Turua, Wharepoa, Fisher’s Landing, and Ngatea. I would like the Board’s direction in the above matter. The Government auditor has com-t dieted the audit for March 31, 1921, and also to November 30, 1921., Balancek'sheets have not yet been returned from the Auditor-General. FINANCING OF CONSUMERS. This was pointed out to me by the auditor, and the Board is restricted to assisting consumers only when the installation is being done by the Board. The Board may also advance to the applicant the material when he is getting any outside firm to install, but the amount of the advance must he limited tp the material used. Section 23 of the Power Board Amendment Act, 1920, provides for this. The anticipated revenue from the present connected load is £14,811 7s. A statement is before you this day, showing how this amount is made up. The contract for transformers was given to Jphri Burns and Co., at a price of £B4O— being three only, Hackbridge, at £2BO each. The high-ten-sion phones, comprising 12 sets, was given to A. Dt Riley and Co., at a price of £8 per set, on a basis of $4.86 to the pound sterling.
