DISTRICT NEWS.

NGATEA.

HALL ENLARGEMENTS. Consequent to the recent decision of the Ngatea Hall Committee to enlarge the hall, at present far too small for - requirements, some of the timber has arrived on the site. Mr W. J. Clare, who has charge of the works, expects to make a start with the additions this week, and hopes to complete the work in time for the season when it will be most used. THE POST OFFICE. ..Most Ngatea folk are now acquiring the habit of awaiting the arrival of the daily mail, which now arrives regularly about 5 p.m., and the post* mistress has a strenuous half hour or, so attending not only to the mail sorting, but to the numerous other demands made of her. The postmistress there has never an idle minute during the day, but at 5 o’clock. everyone apparently wants Something at the one time. The mail arrives, the telephone rings, telegraphic messages are received, the people arrive for their mail, and the only postal official has not only an exceptionally busy but an anxious time. With all this rush it makes one wonder why the Postal Department has delayed enlarging the “6 x 8 dog-box,” or more appropriate still, a new.post office. VETERINARY MATTERS. It will be remembered that a meeting was held at Ngatea recentlytc discuss the possibility of forming a veterinary club for the western side of the Hauraki Plains. Since that meeting several farmers have had • sick cattle, some off which have died. These men consequently wonder whether anything will come of the recent meeting, and if so when some move will be made in the matter. TURUA. PERSONAL. Messrs G. Gray, S. Murray, J. Whitmore, and J. E. Green left Turua yesterday on an extended business trip south. The four Turua tourists will be absent about 12 or 14 days. , THE ORONGO WHARF. The work of extending the wharf i at Orongo, recently delayed, is being recommenced. It is anticipated that the work will be completed at ah early date and afford better facilities for the river boats.
