DEFAULTING HUSBANDS.
DESTITUTE FAMILIES. PUNITIVE MEASURES. IN A WAIKINO CASE. “The leaving of their wives by husbands is becoming far too common,” said Mr W. J. McCormick, chairman of the Thames Hospital Board, at the monthly meeting oif the Board on Wednesday. These men simply fled the country, as in ft certain Waikirio case under review, and the hospital boards were obliged to provide maintenance. The Board should follow the example of the Christchurch Hospital Board, which spent £3B on bringing such a man back from overseas. Other members agreed, and Mr V-. E. Baker said he would give £lO towards the expenses of locating and returning .the Waikinp delinquent. The Board decided to make every effort to bring the defaulter to book.
