PLAINS LOAN PROPOSAL.
MEETING THE SLUMP.
STRICTLY LIMITED EXPENDITURE
RATEPAYERS’ INTERESTS STUDIED.
In view of the depression of thu selling value of dairy products, the Hauraki Plains County Council decided at its monthly meeting at Ngatea on Monday, to make drastic provision against any unnecessary expenditure being undertaken ip the event pf the loan proposal being carried on the 18th of this month. Every member o£ the Council was convinced that the ratepayers would have to be given some definite guarantee th a: the expenditure would be limited to actual commitments and urgent nei cessities. Cr. T. McLoughlin moved that the County pledge itself not to borrow more than £lO,OOO until afte-' 12 months or until such..time as the money market eases, and that no steps be taken to purchase Council Chambers or land out of the £lO,OOO. Cr. F. J. Mayn seconded, and the motion was carried unanimously.
