HAURAKI ADMINISTRATION.
CALLING A CONFERENCE.
. The following letter was sent by the Hauraki Plains County Council to the Minister for Lands (Hon. D. H. Guthrie) during the past month: “My Council is anxious to know whether anything is being done in regard to the proposal to hand over certain areas pf the Plains to my Council to administer. The proposal for a conference is becoming a very pressing one, as some of the metalled roads under your control are rapidly breaking up. undei’ the heavy traffic of this season. I understand that the provisions of the Hauraki Plains Act do not include power for you to regulate this traffic. I have been dire-’.t-ed, therefore, to write and ask y?u for an early reply to my earlier letters on this subject/’ The Minister’s letter reads as follows:
"A proposed change of administration has been in contemplation by the Department for some time past, and I have now received very careful and detailed recommendations on the subject. These are now being considered with the - object of- preparing special legislation in order that you and other local bodies affected may discuss it, and, if necessary, the Chief Drainage Engineer will attend your meeting and advise you on any doubtful points. When the proposals have been agreed to a clause authorising them can be inserted in an appro-, priate Bill and submitted to Parliament.”
The chairman was authorised to call a special meeting if necessary and to invite Mr J. B. Thompson to attend.
